Music Director - Emily Singh
Emily Singh is a Scottish-Guyanese conductor whose work spans orchestral, operatic and choral performance. A passionate advocate for collaborative and inclusive music-making, she seeks to bring musicians and audiences together through a shared spirit of creativity.
Recent engagements include the National Children’s Orchestra, the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and Southbank Sinfonia, alongside assistant roles with British Youth Opera and Opera Caledonia. Music Director of The Beacons Orchestra and the Oxford University Press Orchestra, Emily joined the Associate Conductors Programme at St Martin-in-the-Fields in 2026 and took up the position of Musician in Residence at Lord Wandsworth College in Hampshire, supporting the development of young musicians. This breadth reflects her commitment to creating ambitious and rewarding musical experiences for musicians of all backgrounds.
A graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Emily was awarded the Simon Clarkson Memorial Award for her semi-staging of Handel’s oratorio 'La Resurrezione'. For this Welsh premiere, she created a new performing edition, reflecting her interest in bringing musical scholarship and performance together. Emily has also previously participated in masterclasses and courses with leading pedagogues, including the Royal Academy of Music’s Women Conductors Programme with Sian Edwards and Alice Farnham.
Emily believes the strongest performances grow from curiosity, and she enjoys building imaginative programmes around storytelling and shared themes. Since joining The Beacons Orchestra in 2025, she has enjoyed helping to develop the ensemble, exploring new repertoire, and sharing the joy of orchestral music with local audiences. She looks forward to continuing to develop TBO's musical horizons and its place in the cultural life of Brecon.
